Serena smiled a little at the gesture, glad they found a middle ground. She'd have his affections, as a very much needed friend. And she would give him her understand and help in any way that she could. Fair deal if you asked her. "Poor?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "It's not that simple...well, I guess it would be for you... There's something you're not telling me isn't there?" ((sorry my post is short cuz I got a phone call.))

Brone laughed. "There is something big I haven't told you." he said with a small laugh and a shake of his head. "The only reason i wish she were poor because then it would be easier--if we ever admit anything to one another-- too see each other, it would be easy for her to sneak out of her house i she lived someone where else. If she were older, less watched after...." Brone faltered, he had not meant to tell her, but he might as well be honest to someone other than Alex for once, just maybe, but could he trust her? he had already said too much, he had too.
"It is Aarya, the youngest Waldewick." He said finally looking away from her, somewhere in front of them. It was no wonder he was stuck. No one would be happy with the match. And if a marriage were made between the families--even though last time that happened it only enhanced the war-- he would be paired with Guenevere, not Aarya.

Serena didn't say anything at first, just let it soak into her mind. Well, at least now she understood why he was so forgiving and understanding. He was going through exactly what she did three years ago, on a much grander scale. The part that, for some reason, bothered her was the age. Out of all the princesses he could fall in love with, he had to go for the youngest one of the lot? Even she knew how arrangements were made. He was, in lack of better words, "You're screwed." The way she said it, actually made her laugh a little, though she didn't mean it like that. She knew she was blunt but never that much.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that. It's just you kinda put yourself in a corner that not even I can think of an escape of. And believe me, I'm rather good at escapes...when I'm not taken over by emotion." It really didn't bother her, who the witch was. Yes, she was reminded of what happened between Vlad and Cara, who wouldn't be? What she thought was different about this situation was that the love was different. There actually was love here. Or the starts of it. The kind she wasn't sure of. "I'm not going to tell anyone. I doubt I would be believed even if I did. I have to ask if the two of you have been alone together before. Maybe it would help."

Brone laughed softly. "Not screwed by her yet," He winked, then looked away as if ashamed of his own joke. "Joking aside, there is no way for anything to happen. I'm dead. it's as simple as that." He said looking back at Serena. Sure, there was a three year age difference between him and the princess. It was not so bad as other things. He had no real hope that would anything would happen. He almost wanted Serena to tell him to forget her and stay with her or something, a safer choice. Aarya would grow old and die one day. "I did not intentionally walk into this corner." He said with a grim smile.
"All our meetings are alone together, but if you meant sleeping with her, then no, because neither of us have gotten to the heart of the issue. I believe it does hang in the air, unspoken, but a shadow over every word." Brone was beginning to notice how Aarya had slightly changed her speech when talking to him, how he had begun to think of her. Subtle, but it was happening. Wasn't it better to kill it before it bloomed? Safer yes, but perhaps not better.

((bleh, I'm tired so me post be short))
"As much as I'm dying to tell you that you should give it up and it's useless trying to fight for it, I'm not. And I wasn't thinking about sex, as hard as that seems. I know they have different values than we do." She smiled softly into the night, for now the stars were starting to come out. Winter was perfect for hiding the sun, but she did always wonder what the sunrise would look like... "There is only one question and you have to answer it Brone. Not me, not your friends, and definitely not your family. Is she worth what can and may happen?"

"I don't know," Brone said seriously. "That's why I was all for not even trying to find out, because two possible broken hearts are better than a pile of of dead, vampires and witches alike." He knew if it came down to choosing Aarya or his kingdom, he could not let his people down. He couldn't, could he? That would be unheard of...... He wished he could just forget her. Then he could take Serena, maybe she could make him forget. He could grow to love her, couldn't he? Brone sighed and shook his head, he could feel his shields sliding up, he was embarrassed. Him embarrassed? What was the world coming to? Brone shook his head slightly, feeling his hair fall slightly into his face. "It won't ever be, it will stay a dream." He coudl not promise that, but he would have to try. But it was so easy to say when Aarya was not around.

"If that's how you feel, then its a dream you have to forget." His mind was made up, though she could tell he seemed unsure of himself and the situation. Serena had to be honest with herself. She wanted him, god, did she want him. But even she knew that while his mind, and heart, was on the princess, not only was that her pipe dream, but neither of them, it seemed, would be at rest. Was second place really that bad?
A thought came to her mind and she thought what the hell... Sitting up, Serena moved to her knees in front of Brone and took his face in her hands. "I'm doing this for your own good as your friend. Just remember that..." Then she leaned in and kissed him slowly and passionately. She kept it up for a full minute before pulling back and looking into his eyes. "What are you thinking of now?" she asked, her voice soft and husky.

Brone felt her lips hot and soft against his own cold face. He knew he could never get this with Aarya. Could he? Not easily anyway. Maybe he should never try. And while his heart kept screaming that love was always worth it, he was not so sure. Cara and Vlad much have loved each other as friends in order to set up their scheme, they made a choice to try and get themselves away, as friends. That was the story, but perhaps.... did they really love? Brone wished he could ask them. Serena's voice pulled him back and he met her eyes slowly.
"I was thinking, if maybe you would be enough. If you could make me forget...." He was almost positive it would not be that easy, and denial was a dangerous place to be, but was it worth a good shot? Serena could hold his heart, he could give it to her, he could try and love her with his heart as well as body. But he wondered if he could ever forget Aarya. Would Serena know that she was always second in his mind? Would that bother her? "I would take you as my love, it would be so easy, but is it enough for you to know that you may be second in my heart?" Brone asked, his own voice low, her sensual body only inches away.

Serena knew her answer before he even finished the sentence. It was going to hurt, and she would have days when even she would feel the distance between them until he either forgot or just got over Aarya. Forgetting was hard, and for an immortal, may take decades. But she was willing. That's how she knew she had fallen for the prince, mostly because she was tired of hiding everything away. At least with this, she would be wanted, even if the feelings weren't reciprocated completely.
"It's enough. I would rather have a part of you, be second in your heart, than nothing at all. If you're willing to take me..." Her fingers traced his jawline as she spoke, moving up to gently run through his hair. There was so much she could do for him, things that maybe Aarya couldn't do, at least not with the way the world was right then. And she would do anything in her power to make him happy at least. Do for him what she couldn't do for Tobias: keep him safe.

Brone let out a shuddering breath as her fingers moved through his hair. "I am willing to take you." he said. There were words that rung in his heart and mind but that he could not say: you may never be first in my heart. He knew his time with Aarya had been small, and it may be a fleeting feeling, out of sight out of mind might prove true here. Or the opposite, the princess might clutch his heart from a distance forever, the pain of a love never fulfilled might haunt him. And what if he did learn that Aarya did love him back, could he hold himself back from meeting her somewhere? Serena would be a cover then, and the idea of a second would mortify the princess no doubt. It all surged in his mind, painful to think of and impossible to ignore. No doubt Serena could tell as much. But if she was willing to be his anyway, he had to try for her to be the man she wanted. Brone pressed his lips to Serena's softly, hoping she understood that he was not sure what would happen. But at least he could help her win favor with her father.

Her eyes fluttered closed when he kissed her, a part of her rejoicing in finally finding someone to love again. However, a larger part of her remained, nagging that he wasn't, nor will he ever be, truly hers. Something she was willing to deal with and she put that part of her mind away. All that mattered was the here and now, and the man she only wished to help and heal. She slipped her arms around his neck, moving to nuzzle his cheek almost submissively. Neither of them knew what the future held now, but, even if she became just the woman everyone saw as his love, she would keep that image for him.

Brone kissed her softly, the took his lips away, cheek to cheek, his eyes open and looking at the forest over her shoulder. He held her close for a long moment of silence. She was doing so much for him, he had to repay her. She had a title, and would be enough in his father's eyes. He was sure of that somehow. Now though, there was the issue of Serena's favor with her, he would never believe what had just happened, so Brone must make it known to the baron himself, but how? He sighed softly before kissing her cheek, and leaning back to look at her. "Now, I must help you. How do we convince your father that you are important to me?" he said. "Because after all that shouting, I doubt he will believe you based on purely your word." Brone met her eyes carefully.

All she could do at first is blink before she actually thought about it. Her father thouht she was worthless, that was more than obvious. But now that she truly was with Brone now... She looked back into his eyes, unsure. "I think you would have to talk to him personally. He's a general in your army... De Lorme." She then realized she never told him her full name. It was enough to make her smile enough, holding back a laugh. "I have to do better with the whole introducing thing... But that's all I can think of."

"Let's go talk to him now," Brone said standing up. "Since you left in tears not long ago, he will see that you have come to me in distress, and I have helped you. I would not do that for anyone." Indeed he'd had people begging for his favor when he did not know them--or like them. he always declined. His heart was softer with each moment with Aarya, and it was dangerous. Though, what would he say to DeLorme? Take your daughter back into your house or she shall come to the palace with me. No that was not quite right. "What will I say to him, what will he respond to?" He inquired, turning to Serena once more, laying a cold hand in her own. A gesture of comfort, that was what they really had between them, but it was what they needed.

"Power" was her simple answer, her eyes lidding slightly at his touch. She held onto his hand, almost lacing their fingers just to give her something to do while she thought. There was still the whole "my family doesn't like your family" thing that probably wouldn't help things at all. She should probably explain that. "My family...has a grudge against yours. Something to do with the old times before your family came into power. I stopped paying attention, especially when your father took the throne and my father actually gained some respect for him. Perhaps if you use that to some advantage. He'll listen to you anyway, just for the reason you are the Prince. He'll give you that much." There was a very fine line they were walking. So much to consider. But there wasn't much time for second guessing. It was either take charge or look a fool... "You'll have to remain to tradition. If he uses what happened between me and Tobias, you'll have to make it seem as if you'll draw the weakness out of me. You know how our people are with witches."
