Caroline loved her life. Well--- she loved it when she was away from home, away from where she lived these days. The young girl was sitting high up in a tree, her bare feet kicking through the leaves. Her blond hair was wild around her shoulders, windblown and sun kissed. Her bright blue-gray eyes watched the fading sky as twilight fell like a sheet upon the world-- waiting for the blanket of night to cover it too. She was wearing a simple peasant dress, it was soft and off white, ending at her knees. Unseemly? Probably for a witch. Not to mention she had on leggings underneath because it was winter time after all. She hummed lightly under her breath, sending herself a warm breeze to tickle her face. She knew she should return, vampires might wander onto the ridge. But the thought of going home to her uncle, who would only tell her how disappointing she'd be in court, was not exactly what she felt like doing.

Serena was just finishing her hunt, using a cloth to wipe away the remains of a mountain lion she had devoured basically. She was dressed differently than normal, meaning no dress. Instead she had on flowing pants and a corset that fit snuggly to her bodice. It was an outfit she chose specifically for hunting, one she was used to wearing to displease her father. The hood of her cloak was still covering her head, hiding her from the single ray of sun that remained in the sky.
As soon as Twilight had hit the sky she had bolted out of the castle, elated to finally have some breathing room. It wasn't that she didn't like staying in the castle, it was the nights she enjoyed most of all. But during the day, she was just as bored as she was when she was at home, especially since her father would have restrained her to her room, like he did every day. In a sense, she had more freedom, living with Brone, but she couldn't help but feel as if there was something missing more (also didn't help he was gone most of the day because of princely duties but still)...
Then her concentration was diverted when she smelled something delicious nearby. A witch. Their scent was sometimes intoxicating but noticeable regardless. Looking in the direct of the scent, moved along by the breeze, she saw feet swinging in branches. A young one. Perfect. Serena materialized by the tree's trunk, looking up at the branches. She would never drink from a witch, Tobias was an exception and even then it was in a glass. But still, she liked to tease them. Curious, Serena punched the trunk, shaking the tree to see what the little witch would do.

Caroline felt the tree shake and she only laughed as she was sent off the branch, not even reaching out for the branch. She summoned a swift wind that sent her back onto the branch, but she stood on it this time. Caroline's hair whirled around her as she went sailing back, if not a little roughly. She still did not know how to fl properly, but she would learn with time.
Of course, there had been no wind--she would have known, since it was her power-- so she had a visitor in her tree. The teen tucked her hair behind her ears carefully, looking down with her curious gray eyes for whatever had caused the shake. Caroline sat again, but she looked down often.

Serena watched with a curious, yet still hungry gaze as the witch almost fell, but didn't, using some sort of power to put their self back on their branch. It was slightly disconcerting, considering the girl didn't scream or was surprised, merely laughed as they fell. That was a new one, for her anyway. Maybe it was one of those crazy witches that weren't like the others. Tobias was one of them. Maybe they were related? Probably not but it was an interesting thought.
Either way, Serena thought of the girl as a toy now, trying to how long it would take before she could scare the pants off her and get her to run. Obviously, she was in a playful mood, instead of attacking like she was supposed to. Again, after Tobias, she rarely actually attacked witches anymore. Brone might actually want to get her back into that mindset... Serena materialized on a branch directly in front of the girl, her eyes blood red and her fangs bared. "Boo"

Caroline screamed, a shrill ear splitting sound. The woman in front of her had a smile of malice, and eyes that would haunt her for years no doubt. Well--if she had that long to live. But her impression was that vampires did not play with their food when hungry, her aunt was attacked by a vampire once. So maybe she had a while left to live. Caroline was frozen for a moment staring into those cold eyes. So this is what death looked like, so this is what they were fighting against. Caroline had never seen a vampire before.
Caroline did the first things she could think of, which was catapult herself into the air and grab the branches of a nearby tree. of course, the smarter thing would not have been to initiate a chase, or maybe shove the vampire with a wind, but she was not thinking that far ahead.

Running was definitely the wrong choice. Serena wasn't going to hurt her, that much was certain. She was mostly fed, so hunger wasn't her driving force. The reason she was so willing to scare the poor girl was out of the need to make someone else feel some sort of pain, emotional or otherwise. Even though she now new that it was her father that killed her past love, the hatred she had built up towards witches was still in existence. She needed to get rid of it.
So she chased her. It was rather easy, just to jump and materialize on the same branch in front of the girl, laughing evilly. "Poor little witchy far far from home?" Then she disappeared only to materialize right behind her, lightly placing her hands on the girl's shoulders. "Run run run as fast as you can..."

Caroline stumbled slightly when she appeared the first time, in front of her, with only a gasp. When she touched her, Caroline gave a small scream. the vampiress's hands were cold, ice cold. Just as evil as the venom of a threat in her words. Caroline stayed very still. "Just kill me if you want." She muttered with bravery she did not feel. But really, life wasn't that great. She would miss a lot, but she would not miss her uncle at all, or the life she now had to have. Caroline was sure the vampire wanted a chase, and maybe she should give her one. The witch tried to turn to see the face of her would be attacker, but was afraid that might be the last thing she saw.

"A brave witch. That's something new." Well that took the fun out of the sport. Serena materialized to another branch, lounging out on it instead of killing her. There was no point. There was the oppportunity, she had the little witch in her claws, could have just snapped her pale little neck and been satisfied. Humans were better to play with. Nothing to worry about. But no, she had to have a conscious because of her past. Perhaps she did need to have that beaten out of her. "What are you doing out here alone?" she asked, seemingly disinterested, picking at her nails. Her eyes were back to normal, though she would snack on a rabbit later on from all the materializing. She would have to have a talk with Brone later on.

Except, Caroline wasn't brave. She was just a young witch who thought little and said much. Death would be bad, but once it was over, it was over. No more pain, never again. But surely life wasn't worth so little. She thought about the sunshine on her face, the moss under her feet, the wind in her hair. Laughter on her lips..... Smiles and dances and rainstorms and song. Was any of that in the world beyond? The witch wondered what really happened when you died, was she curious enough to find out now?
But it took Caroline a moment to figure that the vampire had spoken. "Oh, well... I like it better anywhere that isn't home." Home was just a house for her now. Home, with her family, was long dead and burried. Maybe if she kept the vampire happy long enough so it would just go away.....

"Bad family life? I know the feeling." Holding her hand out in front of her, she noticed some blood still under one of her nails and made a face at it. So she decided to suck it out. Ah, venision. Definitely a nice snack. For a moment, she was completely ignoring the young witch until her nails were perfectly clean once more. Then she looked up.
"Are you supposed to be throwing spells or weapons at me, like a normal witch? I thought we were in the middle of a very stupid and idiotic war?" she spat, looking up at the girl with her dark eyes. Slowly, Serena sat up on the branch, moving to her feet in a fluid motion. A blink and she was standing in front of the girl again. "Do you want to die? Like so many others?"

"I don't have any real family left, not the way family is supposed to be," Caroline muttered, watching in something between fascination and disgust as the vampire sucked blood from under her fingernails. Her uncle was family by blood, but never in action, he could care less about his niece. Unless Caroline suddenly became presentable.
"Well," Caroline stammered as the woman appeared in front of her. "I don't want to die." She shook her head but looked up into her eyes. "And I know you could kill me if you wanted, you could do it very easily. If I'm going to die, I would rather it was quick." Fighting would only make it longer, and if she got away, then she would just turn into a vampire, and she would rather die than do that, that was for sure.

"I know just how easily I could kill you. I'm the one with the fangs." She moved closer, reaching out to grab the girl by her neck. But instead of either snapping her neck or dropping her from that height, she merely materialized with her to the ground, not caring how much the trip would have made her nauseous. "Go home. This place is not where you want to be this time of night. Believe me there are vampires much worse than me." She let go and turned to just walk away.
ooc: gaah crappy. sorry!

Caroline shut her eyes as the vampire grabbed her neck, expecting to be flung, or bitten. Anything but what happened. the darkness was twisting, pulling on her limbs and as her eyes opened it was all black. And then she was on the ground, almost sure she was dead. But the monster had let go of her and told her to go home. But earth was her home, her house was nothing but a shell woven out of rules.
"I... okay...." Caroline leaned against a tree to catch her breath and try to settle her stomach. But she wondered if the vampire would change its mind at all. She knew any other one would kill her, would running make them come? Or was it safer to run? Caroline took a few deep breaths of the chilled air, watching the beautiful woman walk away from her, she had escaped death for now and she decided to run.

Running was her best option, keeps her scent light. Either way, Serena wasn't going to chase the girl. Her mind was reeling at the fact she didn't kill her. Or at the very least harm her in some way other than emotional scars. A part of her actually wanted the girl to be stupid and come after her, ask questions, wonder why she of any other witch was spared death or the seemingly feared alternative. Anything but actually doing what she had said and running in the opposite direction.
Walking towards the nearest cliff, Serena looked down on where the vampire village was, gazing down at the life that was moving on. If her father had known what she had done, he would have tied her to a stake and let the sun deal out its punishment. How would Brone react? Or anyone else that found out about her deeds. It seemed as if witches were her curse, her weakness now. Was this at all what was tugging through Brone's mind as he fawned over his witch love? Shaking the thoughts from her head, Serena jumped the cliff, enjoying the blissful fall until she could materialize at the bottom. Perhaps a visit to her father would be good.
