Caroline never wanted to learn other powers. She was never interested in controlling ice, fire, earth, or water. She just wanted to perfect her natural craft--wind working. Caroline therefore, came to the Selestina's often enough, to the point where no one paid her much attention anymore.
She was hovering in the air, sitting cross legged about two feet off the ground. In her lap was a book, she never touched the pages, but blew a tiny wind to make them turn. her hands were needed to hold back her hair. Caroline was currently reading about flying, a spell she had been trying to perfect for a long time. It involved all kinds of equalizing winds to keep you a float. She was able to do it low for several feet, but she wanted to be able to use it as long as she wanted, at all angles and heights. She had her work cut out for her.
Her concentration was broken as a book fell to the ground and she fell from her spot, landing on her feet and reaching out to catch the book as it dropped.

Nicoletta wandered slowly around the store, she had bought many things from this shop, rare books and common, even when you actually meant to buy them. She hovered just a few inches off teh floor and her feet always lead her to the same place. The section where fling spells were located. Nicoletta had long since perfected her technique she coudl fly comfortably at any height though it did have it's side-effects. She coudl still remember the crash landing she had into the washing after spending too much time in the air and expending too much energy to land properly. Apparently mud stains can be really stubbron to get out but Nicoletta never knew that so she simply could not be blamed for all the extra work the servants had to do.
She heard a small commotion as a girl seemed to fall onto her feet. A good landing but the book she was reading was going to crash to the floor and Selestina was touchy about her books. Nicoletta quickly uttered a spell softly and flipped the book back into the girl's outstretched hands. Nicoletta smiled at the girl and saw the page she'd been reading from, it was from a book that Selestina had refused to sell Nicoletta, one of Nicoletta's favourite reads although she didn't need it any more.
"You have very good taste. But not the best thing to be doing if you really want to learn how to fly." Nicoletta advised gently, stepping down from her perch on the air just as if she were standing on an invisible step. Nicoletta flicked her finger and the pages of the book turned to one near the back where a small note was glowing gently.
"I should read that note carefully if I were you." She said, turning to the shelf and pulling out a new book that Selestina had told her about.

Of course Caroline had nothing against strangers being perfectly helpful, but she felt a little as if she was being talked down to. Caroline never liked that, she was equal to anyone, and the woman did not look that much older than her, but she could have been mistaken. But at least she was saved some trouble. "Alright, thank you." She said with a smile, bending her head to read the note, her blonde hair falling into her face. Caroline's gray eyes read the note carefully, trying to remember everything she said. She knew that flying would take her practice, but at least she had an easy time with wind, it being her natural ability. She guessed she would learn to fly much faster than someone who had a power over earth for example.
She made sure she had the small passage memorized and shit the book, lazily blowing it back to it's shelf. Why bother moving around? She used the wind to grab another book and bring it back to herself and resumed her cross legged position in the air.

Nicoletta watched the girl out of teh corner of ehr eyes, she didn't know who she was but she recognised her face, she probably knew the girl's parents, although the girl wasn't really a girl at all, she wasn't that much younger than herself. Nicoletta was intrigued by her though, she had a keen eye for wind manipulation and if she was interested in flying then all the better.
Nicoletta flicked through the book and sighed. Just another amateur book trying to pass off as the real thing. She quickly gathered up a small amount of extra energy and pushed herself off the floor quickly reachign the top shelf normally only accesible by a ladder and quickly jammed the pathetic book in with the other pathetic books on flying that so many people published.
Nicoletta went across teh shelves and pulled out another book, slwoly flicking through it as she lowered herself to the ground and slotting it into the space that had just been vacated. She lookde back at the young woman hovering beside her and then looke back at the book shelves. It was times like these when she felt guilty for byuing books from here, whil she was proud of herself for learning the complicated spells she also stopped others fm learning them. And this one seemed very interested in flying.
Nicoletta turned to face the girl again and smiled.
"How keen are you on learning flight spells?" She asked, she had to know. Nicoletta wasn't about to try and help someone who wouldn't put mind, body and soul into working out these spells.

The woman had returned and Caroline grinned at her question. "I want to learn more than everything." That was probably all she had to say, but true to her nature she found herself going on and rambling a bit. "You see wind is my element and I can already hover and give myself short bursts of height as long as I have something to land on. I can hover too, and glide at low heights. But flying would be so wonderful, not to mention it has to do with my element and... I'm very keen on learning." Caroline finished, cutting her ramble short and shutting the book she had and clasping her hands. Did this witch know how to fly? Would she teach her? Caroline tucked a bit of golden hair behind her ears and looked with a smile at the face of her companion. The woman would have to be crazy if she did not believe her.

Nicoletta's eyebrows rose at the girl's babbling. Well, at least she was very interested in flying. Flying was one part knowledge, one part perseverance, one part pain resistance. You had to stand a lot of pain when learning to fly. Nicoletta remembered that part very well, the countless mornings of aching muscles that had to be put to one side as she continued learning and practicing fighting and other spells. small alarm beels rung in Nicoletta's mind, flying was all well and good but you had to be able to do something else, while the girl could control the wind she had to learn the other elements, or just a few spells using the other elements.
Nicoletta smiled reassuringly and held out her hand.
"I'm Nicoletta Bentley, and i've never met another with so much enthusiasm for flying." She said beaming, most people had never understood her affinity with flying but what wasn't there to like about it? She would help this girl if the girl wanted help, and she would msot definitely lend her the best books Nicoletta could find.

"I'm Caroline," She said with a smile dropping gracefully from her air perch. Things seemed to be going well so far, and Cara was always optimistic so she didn't stop to think that Nicoletta was not her friend. Caroline knew it was hard, and would take a while, and might be painful. But it would be worth it, she just knew it had to be. She shuck the older witch's hand with a smile. "I'm enthusiastic about everything. My uncle says I'm too happy for my own good. He reckons my face will get stuck this way." She gave a little laugh. She of course knew her face would not get stuck, but she did find a smile in almost everything.
Nicoletta was older than her, she could tell, she wondered where the woman worked. It must not be around here because she wandered the streets most often, she knew so many faces. Caroline did not think her question would be rude and so she asked, "Where do you work?" her face innocently curious.

Nicoletta smiled and shook Caroline's ahnd warmly, giggling slightly at what the younger weoman said. Her uncle was right, she was probably too enthusiastic for her own good.
"Well better to have your face stuck in a permament smile than a permament frown." Nicoletta remembered the old saying and she had once made a younger student in her father's training believe that it could actually happen. And with so many new spells being created who knew? Maybe one day it could happen.
"I'm part of the Royal guard. What about you? You mentioned your uncle, what's his name?" Nicoletta asked, she probably knew Caroline's uncle, there wasn't really that many adults in the Witch territory she didn't know, plus Caroline did look familiar it was very annoying.

"Thats what I tell him, better to be happy than sad all the time, but he says it'll only cause mw trouble like he says it did my--" She faltered. He always said her parents died because they were not serious enough about anything, they were underfoot, and got stepped on and someday would be the same for her. For the first time since she had met Nicoletta, the girl's face fellt slightly, but stayed composed, not giving much away. "My uncle is Edmond Sands, one of the kings officials." She said clasping her hands behind her back. Well, for a palace worker, she seemed to be a good sort of person. Caroline wondered why she did not remember his exact title, he must have used it whenever he was angry with her, 'I am such and such and therefore....' she was sick of those speeches.
